Michael Suwandi is a specialised 3d modeler and texture painter. He graduated from Singapore Polytechnic with a Diploma in Digital Media. His passion for the visual effects world was one of the driving forces behind his choice of studies. Michael strongly believes that there is nothing that will not shine if he polishes it enough. Thus in his free time he continues to polish his modeling and texture painting skills. Currently Michael is a character artist at MIA Studio
Michael uses a wide range of tools for his work. His personal favourites being Maya, Mari and zbrush. Along the way Michael has also picked up Cinema4d, Sketch Up, Mudbox, Topogun, Vue and even Manga Studio EX (where he spent some of his time drawing his very own football Manga or better known as Japanese Style Comic).
The logo is fondly based on the butterfly. In order for a butterfly to fly effortlessly, the wings of a butterfly has to be really clean and dry, free from any impurities such as specks of dust and even drops of moisture. Similarly in order for a 3d model to be used properly and be integrated well into the pipeline, it needs to have clean topology, having just the right amount of poly count. A great topology is also essential in the creation of uv maps which will allow great textures to be painted at a uniform resolution without stretching. It also allows for the creation of wonderfully detailed displacement maps, normal maps, specular maps and many more. And last but not least, a model with great topology will do great wonders in the hands of amazing animators.
Thus Michael is striving to continue to make highly detailed models with efficient topology, coupled with great texture painting and detailed displacement sculpting to produce the very best model to best of his ability - just like the beautiful butterfly.
